“Our only power lies in our united voice”- Navid Afkari. A Good Day Will Come is the powerful short film from Director Amir Zargara, telling the heart-breaking story of Arash, a professional wrestler in Iran with ambitious dreams, who must make an impossible decision.

The eye-opening and thought-provoking film is inspired by real events and is dedicated to Navid Afkari - an Iranian wrestler who was sentenced to death and executed after a wrongful conviction during the 2018 Iranian protests.

A Good Day Will Come

The story follows Arash, who by day works as a bricklayer to support his family, but in his heart he wants to represent his country and win gold. But Iran is in turmoil and its people are suffering, so Arash might have to remain silent and not stand up for what he believes in. The youth are protesting unemployment, government corruption and inflation, and the response from the people in power has led to deaths of many young protesters.

When Arash’s sister is killed, Arash can no longer keep quiet, even if it means destroying his dreams of being an Olympian. During a press conference, he announced he supports ‘his people’ - upsetting many people in higher places. The film is about using your voice, being heard, standing up for your beliefs, and having the courage of your convictions.

The film also highlights corruption, political agendas and the restraints governments place on people from all corners of its country. The film does well in showing the divide felt from the young people of Iran, and will leave you with a little piece of hope for the future.

A Good Day Will Come is well shot, and each scene fills the audience with information to help build a strong backstory. There is a documentary vibe to the piece, especially with the protests; creating some very powerful imagery. The pace is consistent, with enough emotion and intrigue to drive audiences to keep watching to discover what will happen to Arash.

A Good Day Will Come

The acting is outstanding. Effortless in their performances, each actor is completely committed to their roles that you would think this was real life.

The end of the piece is very poignant - I held my breath whilst reading the small statement on screen.

A Good Day Will Come is politically and emotionally charged, giving its audiences a powerful insight into what is happening in Iran, and what its people have gone through and are going through. Being roughly twenty-five minutes the film does exceptionally well to tell such an emotional story in a small amount of time. It is well worth investing in - a must watch.
