Based on the deadliest terror attack before 9/11, Flight 182 follows a pregnant wife, Mandeep (Sundeep Morrison) and Jeet (Gurinder Sindher), who must choose between visiting his dying mother or heeding warnings from a separatist group threatening to attack.

At just 17 minutes, this short film from director Rippin Sindher manages to pack plenty of raw emotion into such a small amount of time. Largely centering around a family of three, soon to be four, Flight 182 manages to get you settled into their lifestyle immediately. Both Jeet and Mandeep have strong reasons for him to go — and not to go, and the film does a great job of exploring both sides of the argument.

Unfortunately, this is a story of tragedy and loss. Flight 182 never feels the need to show you the tragedy itself, instead expresses the effect on the ones left behind by ending with Mandeep waking to the news of this terrible attack, with the consequences for her family, fatal. The film gets all the more emotional with the words, "This film is dedicated to my Uncle Daljit Singh Grewal and the 328 other innocent lives on board Air India Flight 182.", with it being clear from the outcome that this a personal project close to home for director Rippin Sindher.

Flight 182 is a brief, deeply felt piece of filmmaking, one that lingers long after its final dedication fades. It’s a reminder of how personal history can merge with global tragedy, and how the ripple effects of loss live on in those left behind. In just 17 minutes, Sindher delivers a poignant tribute — intimate, devastating, and quietly unforgettable.
