The pint-sized alien tree returns for a series of zany little shorts.

In all honesty, I foolishly thought we had safely escaped the baby Groot mania that was rife in 2017. The cute little Vin Diesel voiced tree was inescapable in 2017 with his cute little face plastered on every piece of merch fathomable.
But here we are, five years later Baby Groot is back for his own series (if you can even call it that), with five, five-minute short films showing us a snapshot of the day-to-day life of the smallest Guardian of the Galaxy.
Whilst I’m sure the series was commissioned as a sure way to continue selling baby Groot merch across the Disney empire (something I am an absolute sucker for), I actually thoroughly enjoyed all five shorts. Well-paced, wonderfully animated and with plenty of sweet slap-stick comedy, the shorts vary in tone and scale but are all extremely charming.
Did the world need the I am Groot shorts? No, not really. Should they have been a DVD extra when Guardians of the Galaxy 2 came out? Yes, they should have. But if you have 20 minutes and you need a little bit of laughter in your life, then the I am Groot shorts are well worth your time. I just hope you’re prepared for the second wave of baby Groot mania that is due any day now!
