'Fall 2' Review: A Worthy Sequel Packed with Vertigo-Inducing Terror

Fall 2 is a valiant sequel, that matches the same nauseating visuals of its predecessor. Only instead of isolating its leads up a rusty tower this time they face decaying planks of wood 4000 ft upon a cliffs edge.
What is FALL 2 about?
Grieving her sister Shiloh’s death, Jax (Harriet Slater) reluctantly teams up with Luce (Arsema Thomas) Shiloh’s bold, thrill-seeking best friend. To honour Shiloh, together they travel to Thailand and climb the treacherous and illegal Mount Kwan, where unexpected mishaps force them to confront their grief and transform their lives forever.
Visually, Fall 2 is a heart pounding rush. Showcasing gorgeous locations, with each wide-open camera shot dealing a sharp jolt of vertigo making you feel as if you’re right on the mountainside as well. A grand spectacle with a seemingly endless abyss below creating a sense of dread every time the camera spins; focusing closely on every rickety plank, slip of a boot, or crumble of a rock. It leaves you on the edge of your seat, in a perpetual state of panic.
The performances are sharp, emotionally grounded and couldn’t be more different from one another. Jax craves safety, routine and rejects any sort of activity that could disrupt her but has no other choice to adapt when circumstances force her hand. Whereas Luce seeks the next rush of adrenaline, until their mental and physical reserves begin to burn out. Together their contrasts show who they are on the surface and who they become when the consequences finally hit.
Fall 2 doesn’t suffer from pacing issues, instead it moves at a fast, unnerving pace, including twists in its plot for more shock value. Where it shines is its tension building. Instead of cheap jump scares, it rattles you with unpredictable weather, failing equipment and physical exhaustion. Although our leads make avoidable decisions and creates unnecessary melodrama to fill the plot, this sequel is still a suspenseful pop-corn flick that ticks the boxes of a nail-biting survival thriller.
If you’re not a lover of heights, consider yourself warned. Fall 2 is full of dizzying camera work and sickening angles, but also gorgeous sceneries, sharp performances and incredible physical chorography. It’s enough to keep any thrill-seekers white-knuckled on the edge of their seat.
