Most of us are familiar with Jack Whitehall and his slapstick brand of comedy, but his next project completely turns on its heels and brings out a much colder, unnatural side to our otherwise known joker. Prime Video series Malice is a six-part psychological thriller that promises high-stakes, twisted secrets and class conflict. With Jack Whitehall as the titular character, he makes good on giving you exactly that.
What is ‘Malice’ about?
The setting begins in a sun-soaked landscape of Greece, where the ultra-rich Tanner family are on holiday. The family consists of patriarch Jamie (David Duchovny), his fashion designer wife Nat (Carice Van Houten) and their three children. During their stay they are introduced to the seemingly charismatic, quirky tutor Adam (Jack Whithall). What appears to be an innocent interaction is in fact far from the truth – Adam is not as charming as he appears and hides deviant ulterior motives: infiltrate the Tanner family and destroy them from within.
Meet the main cast of ‘Malice’
Jamie played by David Duchovny (X Files) is the primary target. He represents the elite class and exudes success in every aspect of his life, but when that perfect picture begins to crumble his downfall is incredibly dramatic and acts as the main source of compelling entertainment. Nat played by Carice Van Houten (Game of Thrones) a central figure to Adam’s manipulation. Initially charmed by Adam and his usefulness she unwittingly endorses herself as a tool in his plot for revenge. Jules played by Christina Adams (Black Lightning) is the olive branch Adam needed to get close to the Tanner family, and her husband Damien played by Raza Jaffrey (Sex and the City 2) was the only character to act upon suspicions only to become collateral damage at the hands of Adam. As for Adam himself played by Jack Whitehall (Fresh Meat) he is the central antagonist, presenting himself as trustworthy saving grace but this charm is his primary weapon and the key to fulfilling his twisted game.

Once Adam has ingrained himself in the lives of the Tanner family his mask shifts from sweet to bitter. His true nature – which is deeply deranged and vengeful – begins to sour everyone around him. Beginning with strategically driving a wedge between Jamie and Nat: he exploits their insecurities by manipulating their relationship and testing their loyalties to one another. He plants doubt amongst Jamie's children, specifically his older son Kit which further causes conflict with Jamie's his ex-wife Rachel (Kits biological mom). As Adams obsession with the Tanner family only escalates, he taints Jamie's character in his place of work, ultimately causing him to lose everything he has essentially worked for. Additionally, Adams sinister motives increase with murder, such as the family dog and anyone who dares dig into his past. With Jamie's life collapsing he is forced to confront the terrifying question about the man taking care of his family and living under his roof: how do you protect your family from the enemy within?
Why should you watch 'Malice'?
The brilliance of Malice lies in the central dynamic: Adam is the fire seeking revenge, and Jamie and Nat's marriage is the timber he uses to light the flame. As the series progresses, the audience will be constantly asked to question not just Adam's motives, but the extent of Jamie's past wrongdoing and Nat's complicity or blindness to her husband's life. It’s a slow burning nightmare, with a noticeable likeness to Saltburn and The White Lotus where we see the rich manically unravel through no fault but their own. If you’re looking for a devilish, demented drama then make sure to check out Malice.
'Malice' is streaming now, watch it on Prime Video.
