Our final panel interview of the day at MCM! With the third and final season of the critically acclaimed and fan pleasing Star Wars: Bad Batch animated series wrapping up last year. Michelle Ang (Omega) and Noshir Dalal (Rampart) arrived at MCM Comic Con to look back on their time in a galaxy far, far away and potentially what the future might hold for their characters.

Asking the pair about how they became involved in Bad Batch and their reaction to getting the roles in the show. Michelle was working as a director’s assistant back in her birthplace of New Zealand, having just left L.A. She had been asked to deliver a voice audition, which was unique for her as her agent is a live action agent, and they requested the audition to be her in her natural accent. She thought nothing of it at first, as there was no code name, no huge secrecy surrounding it, however when she got the role and it was revealed to her that it was for a Star Wars series, she was excited to learn more about the character of Omega, and it became “a journey of wonderful surprises.”

Noshir has been a Star Wars fan all his life—“I grew up getting to see speeder bikes racing across Endor, which permanently changed my brain.”—He has been involved in Star Wars before, having done performance capture for trailers for Knights of the Old Republic, and roles in Squadrons, Tales of the Jedi & Jedi: Survivor. For his Rampart audition, he delivered a committed political speech, emphasising the “I’m just like you.” essence of the character and he was immediately on the same wavelength as director Brad Rau in the call-back studio reading. He assumed it was a guest role for a single episode and couldn't believe it was the overarching villain. He cried for 15 minutes after he thought his character was finished in the show, due to how much he “loves to hate him.” (only to be overjoyed when he returned in Season 3!)

When looking at the future, when asked if she would like to come back as Omega, Michelle’s response was a swift—“I will always say yes to that.”— and she reminisced at the emotion she felt at hearing about the show’s final season announcement at last year’s Star Wars Celebration. She praised showrunner Jennifer Corbett’s “beautiful epilogue” for the character, which they fought hard for and how important it was for the creators behind Omega. Noshir added to this that “there are so many cool female characters in Star Wars.”, however Omega stands out as we get to go on a journey with her from the very beginning and that she “has such hero potential.” The idea of a live action portrayal immediately brought enthusiasm to the room, with Michelle stating “I would love that!” and quickly committing to dyeing her hair blonde for the role if the opportunity arose.
