REVIEW | HOUSE OF THE DRAGON: EPISODE 9

"THE GREEN COUNCIL"

WRITTEN BY ELLIOT LINES / OCTOBER 18, 2022

Tensions are rising in Westeros, and with the death of King Viserys things are only just going to get more complicated. With the king gone, the Hightowers look set to make their move on the throne. Queen Alicent wishes to do it one way, Otto wishes to do it another, but when Prince Aegon goes missing its a race to find the to be king, which was the apparent dying wish of Viserys himself.

The whole episode is based in Kings Landing, no one outside is aware of what is taking place, that including Rhaenyra. Some people are with the plans to make Aegon king, others against, making for plenty of clashes between our characters. Olivia Cooke has provided us with a great portrayal of Alicent so far, but his episode may just be her greatest showing yet. bringing us a strong powerful character willing to take on anyone.

Up to this point we've had only snippets of dragon action, until the final scene of this episode. When Princess Rhaenys breaks out of her imprisonment she follows the crowd to see what's afoot, and ultimately to find her dragon. Its at this moment that the ground breaks from under the floor of the crowd, for Rhaenys riding Meleys to emerge at the shock of the Queen and her family. It's at this moment that Rhaenys can end it all by uttering that single word, but she leaves it be and flees (We expect off to Dragonstone).

House of the Dragon is just as compelling as all those years of Game of Thrones. With very little action, the show manages to gives us just what we want in the form of family feuds and short sharp moments of absolute genius show making.
