There’s an intimate premise at the heart of The OG Bootcamp, positioning itself as both a comedy and a commentary on modern relationships. Framed as a mockumentary, the film follows an aspiring sexologist who orchestrates a social experiment, bringing together couples in an attempt to address imbalances in intimacy and communication.
The film leans confidently into that idea, using humour to explore what can often be an awkward or overlooked subject. There are moments where the satire lands well, particularly in how it highlights the disconnect between couples and the discomfort around open conversation. The cast, which includes a wide range of personalities, help ground the material, balancing the more exaggerated elements with performances that feel recognisable and, at times, surprisingly sincere.

However, while the film’s intentions are clear, its execution can feel uneven at times. The mockumentary format gives it freedom to experiment, but it doesn’t always maintain a consistent rhythm, occasionally drifting between sharp satire and more obvious, on-the-nose humour. As a result, some of its more thoughtful observations are at risk of becoming swallowed in amongst the comedic elements of the film.
That said, The OG Bootcamp remains an engaging and genuinely entertaining watch, standing out for its willingness to confront a subject many tend to shy away from. It may not fully capitalise on its premise, but there’s enough here to suggest a film that’s aiming for something more than just surface-level laughs, it teaches you that communication is key when it comes to your relationship, and not just in those intimate moments.
'The OG Bootcamp' is available now on Prime Video.
